GESTATIONAL Diabetes and choline

Choline and Gestational Diabetes
Women who have diabetes mellitus or develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy have lower choline levels than other women. Samples of cord blood samples at birth also indicate that the placenta is less able to concentrate choline from the mother’s blood for the baby’s development. Women with diabetes mellitus in pregnancy should add choline supplements to their regimen. Diabetes mellitus during fetal gestational has been associated with increased risk the child’s risk for schizophrenia.
